In the Spotlight: Dentsu’s Reign at #1 in India – A Campaign Brief Asia Creative Rankings

By winning the top spot in the 2023 Campaign Brief Asia Creative Rankings, Dentsu Creative India has cemented its position as the undisputed leader in the Indian creative agency market. This accomplishment follows their stellar performance in 2022, when Dentsu Webchutney, before it changed its name to Dentsu Creative, gained the majority of their ranking points. Ogilvy Mumbai, DDB Mudra Mumbai, and Leo Burnett India were trailing by just 155 points, making it a fiercely competitive field.

India’s 2023 Creative Agency

Dentsu Creative India has earned the coveted distinction of India’s 2023 Creative Agency of the Year after accumulating an outstanding 3,550 points in the Campaign Brief Asia Creative Rankings.

Their pinnacle was the multiple-award-winning campaign called “The Unfiltered History Tour.” Dentsu Webchutney created this amazing campaign, which won four Grand Prix awards, two Gold awards, and three Silver awards at Cannes Lions 2022.

At One Show 22, where it won a Grand Prix, seven Gold, nine Silver, and two Bronze honors, it continued to triumph. The campaign also excelled at Spikes Asia 22 and MAD STARS 22, where it won four Grand Prix awards and five, respectively.

By winning significant prizes at Cannes 23, Spikes Asia 23, and D&AD 22, Dentsu extended its winning streak and further cemented its position as a creative powerhouse.

Points System

Ogilvy Mumbai took second place with 2,540 points thanks to their outstanding performance in 2022. They rose from eighth rank in India in 2020 to fifth place in 2021 as a result of this outstanding performance.

They won awards for their “Shah Rukh Khan-My-Ad” campaign at LIA 22 and Cannes 22, as well as Clio 22, One Show 22, D&AD 22, Campaign Brief’s THE WORK 22, MAD STARS 22, Cannes 23, Spikes Asia 23, and Clio 23.

DDB Mudra Mumbai earned 2,425 points to place third in India’s Creative Rankings for the second consecutive year. At AdFest 23 + 22, Spikes Asia 23 + 22, CB’s THE WORK 23 + 22, Cannes 23 + 22, One Show 23 + 22, LIA 22 + 22, MAD STARS 22, and D&AD 22, the agency had a successful run. Their most notable award-winning campaign was “Machine Gun Mouth” for Krafton.

Burnett, Leo India has been an outstanding performer, earning 2,385 points to place fourth in the India rankings. Several platforms, including AdFest, Spikes Asia, D&AD, One Show, Clio, and Cannes, where campaigns like Airtel’s “175 Replayed,” Oreo’s “#BRINGBACK2011,” and Lay’s “Smart Farm” have won awards, demonstrate their success in 2023. Additionally, the agency made a presence at LIA 22 and Cannes 22.

Leo Burnett, in particular, is positioned for a noteworthy 2024 with more than twice as many points in 2023 as any other Indian agency.

FCB India, with 1,605 points, completes the top five. At Cannes 23 + 22, Spikes Asia 23 + 22, D&AD 23 + 22, Clio 23 + 22, and One Show 22, FCB’s outstanding campaigns, such as “The Nominate Me Selfie” for Political Shakti and The Times Of India, “ChatPat” for SOS Children’s Villages India, and “Unbox Me” for UNAIDS, were honored.

The sixth and seventh spots were won by VMLY&R India and VMLY&R Commerce India, respectively, demonstrating their impressive results over the previous 18 months. The fact that neither agency participated in the 2021 Creative Rankings makes their accomplishment all the more impressive.

In addition to winning prizes at LIA 22, New York Festivals 22, MAD STARS 22, D&AD 22, AdFest 23, Spikes Asia 23, and NYF 23, VMLY&R India, with 1,135 points, had a big influence at Cannes 22. Their “The Killer Pack” campaign for Maxx Flash was notable and took home two Grand Prix honors at Cannes 22.

With their “UNILEVER Smart Fill” campaign being a great performer, VMLY&R Commerce India earned 840 points. AdFest 23, Spikes Asia 23, D&AD 23, Clio 23, One Show 23, Cannes 22, MAD STARS 22, and New York Festivals were among the venues where they won honors.

BBDO India, McCann Worldgroup India, and L+K Saatchi & Saatchi Mumbai are tied for the next three spots in the rankings with 540, 465, and 130 points each.

Strong showings at LIA 22 and AdFest 23, as well as prizes at Cannes 22, One Show 23, and Spikes Asia 23, all contributed to BBDO India’s success.

At AdFest 23, D&AD 23, LIA 22, Cannes 22, and Spikes Asia 23 + 22, McCann Worldgroup received accolades.

Newcomer Talented has had a big influence on the industry, earning 170 creative rating points because to their outstanding performance at Cannes Lions 2023.

Last but not least, L+K Saatchi & Saatchi received all of its ranking points in 2023 as a result of its stunning triumphs at AdFest, Spikes Asia, and One Show 22.
